The added depth could help Durham in their playoff chase

Hudson Valley begins their title defense today.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (44-26)

Early offense supported J.D. Martin in a 5-2 win over Indianapolis. The Bulls were off and running in the first inning in the first inning. In his final plate appearance for Durham, Wil Myers doubled and came around to score on a two run single by Chris Gimenez. Although J.D. Martin gave the lead right up in the next half inning on a two run home run by Andrew Lambo, In the third inning, Brandon Guyer's solo home run would give Durham the lead for good. After the second inning hiccup, Martin settled in and finished seven innings, allowing just the two runs on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Cole Figueroa was the only Bull to get two hits, but three others reached base twice.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (36-33)

Enny Romero was somewhat effective but a bit wild in Montgomery's 5-2 win over Jacksonville. He struck out five and only allowed three hits in five scoreless innings, but he walked three and needed 98 pitches, only 57 of which were strikes. All five runs were scored before Romero exited the game, starting in the first with an RBI single by Cameron Seitzer. Seitzer would later drive in two more of the Biscuits' runs in the sixth with a two out single that scored two runs. Todd Glaesmann and Robby Price joined Seitzer as the Biscuits to reach base twice. Marquis Fleming allowed both Suns runs in two innings of work, his third straight outing allowing a run.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (29-35)

Charlotte enjoyed the last day of their All-Star break.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (38-30)

Three home runs and late insurance runs backed Taylor Guerrieri in Bowling Green's 8-0 win over Lansing. Half of the runs scored while Guerrieri, who was outstanding, was in the game. He struck out seven and walked just one in five scoreless innings, only allowing four hits. A two out double by Brandon Martin scored Joey Rickard in the second inning to kick off the scoring. Martin would finish with three hits on the day, as would Rickard and Tyler Goeddel. After the Hot Rods scored two more in the fifth, the home run derby began. It started with Joey Rickard's solo shot in the sixth inning, and Patrick Leonard and Goeddel would each hit a two run bomb in the eighth and ninth innings respectively. After Guerrieri exited, Nick Sawyer, Jose Molina and Marcus Jensen combined to strike out seven in four innings of relief.
