Down on the farm June 19: Linsky's struggles continue

Parker Markel wasn't very good himself - Jim Donten

After a solid month of May, the former second rounder has allowed runs in all five outings in June

The Hot Rods playing in the Midwest League All-Star Game didn't do anything exciting, and they'll get back to real games tomorrow.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (45-27)

After going up 2-0 in the first inning, Durham's offense was shut down in a 5-2 loss to Louisville. Vince Belnome and Leslie Anderson each had RBI hits in the first, but the Bulls would go quietly all game after that. Only five batters would reach base in the entire game after that, and poor baserunning and a lack of timely hits prevented any rallies. Mike Montgomery struck out four and only walked one in six innings, but the Bats were able to hit him pretty hard. He allowed all five runs, four earned, on 10 hits, including a two run home run by Neftali Soto in the sixth that broke a 2-2 tie. Tim Beckham reached base twice out of the leadoff spot, and Leslie Anderson had two hits.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (37-33)

Montgomery was off.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (29-37)

Charlotte came up on the wrong side of a back and forth game in a 7-6 loss to St. Lucie. After last night's quiet game, the offense bounced back with six runs on 13 hits, but any time they seemed to gain momentum, the Mets struck back with runs of their own. After back to back two run innings in the sixth and seventh, St. Lucie went on to score three runs to tie in the seventh, including a two run home run allowed by Lenny Linsky. Linsky would be tagged for the winning run in the ninth too; with two batters already on base with no outs, Dustin Lawley hit a walkoff double. Andrew Bellatti was charged with four runs, and starter Parker Markel allowed one in four innings on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Taylor Motter's two doubles, walk and stolen base from the leadoff spot sparked a productive middle of the order. Richie Shaffer also hit two doubles, Drew Vettleson drove in two runs on two hits, and Alejandro Segovia picked up three hits.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (38-30)

The Midwest League East squad, featuring many Hot Rods, won a wild 6-5 game in Dayton. Andrew Toles led off and went 1/3, scoring a run and striking out. Tommy Coyle and Tyler Goeddel combined to go 0/3 with two strikeouts. Luke Maile and Leonardo Reginatto each went 1/2 with a run scored. Dylan Floro struck out one and allowed two hits in a scoreless inning. Reinaldo Lopez recorded two outs, striking out one, allowing a hit and walking one. Former Rays minor leaguer Alex Keudell struck out the side in an inning of work.

Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades (2-0)

After falling behind early, Hudson Valley stormed back for a 10-5 win over Aberdeen. The IronBirds scored a run in both the first and second innings, and after Hudson Valley tied it in the third, they would bat around in the fourth and score six runs. The Renegades had three hits for extra bases in the inning, including a two run double by Ryan McChesney. It was a big night for the bottom of the order for Hudson Valley. McChesney had four hits out of the nine hole, and Darryl George reached base three times in front of him. Despite the two early runs, one of which was unearned, starter Chris Kirsch settled in and dominated. He finished up the outing with the two runs allowed on four hits in six innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. Aaron Griffin allowed three runs in 1.2 innings in his pro debut.
