The Rays Tank: 1st will wait another day

Jared Wickerham

The Rays final game of the four-game set in Boston was rained out yesterday, so the team will travel on to New York for the weekend today; only to return to the Red Sox for the make-up game Monday.

Oh, the anticipation.

Due to rain, the impending clinch of the best record in the American League and the top spot in the East will have to wait another day. Hopefully, that day is today... Go Orioles?

Note: the Red Sox have been alone atop the AL East since May 27th...time for that streak to end.

Considering the lack of a game, Rays news was rather lacking.

Per @SunSportsRays, the rotation should now be the following:

Today the Rays open up a weekend series in the Bronx against the Yankees, who are currently 6.5 games out of first and dealing with quite the bit of A-Rod drama.

Quote of the Day:

- Jeff Sullivan at Fangraphs praised David Price for his complete game wins post the disabled list, but the best part of the article? The third comment, as pointed out by @jasoncollette.

- Evan Longoria provided some personal insight into Dustin Pedroia's eight-year, $110 million deal with the Red Sox.

- Grantland took a look at the moves by two AL East contenders this week - the Pedroia deal and the O's signing of Francisco Rodriguez.

- Because, why not: the Rangers bestowed Mariano Rivera with personalized Yankees cowboy boots and quite the cowboy hat.

- Want to watch an animated Ryan Braun stick a syringe, assumedly full of steroids, into his neck?

- If you're in Atlanta anytime soon, be sure to grab some breakfast mid-game at the new Waffle House at Turner Field.

- And we thought Rays giveaways were fun...Marco Scutaro, in a rain globe, reenacting his pose from the World Series last year.
