Durham took a page from the parent club's playbook with runners in scoring position.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (3-1)
Durham couldn't hold a late 1-0 lead and blew an opportunity in the ninth in a game one 2-1 loss to Pawtucket. The Bulls scored their lone run of the game in the second inning when Mike Fontenot led off the inning with a double and eventually came home to score on a Jesus Flores sac fly. Jake Odorizzi made his second straight tremendous playoff start, throwing seven scoreless innings, only allowing four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. The Red Sox promptly got to Jeff Beliveau who allowed the first two batters of the eighth to reach base. After a sac bunt moved the runners into scoring position, and a Brock Holt two run single gave Pawtucket the lead. Durham got their first two runners on base in the bottom half of the inning, but they failed to tie the game. In the ninth, they loaded the bases with one out, but Shelley Duncan popped out, and Brandon Guyer flew out to end the game. Tim Beckham and Cole Figueroa had two hit games, and Beckham reached base three times.
