Rays down on the farm September 15: Durham back on top

Pretend this says 2013 and also not in Durham - Liz Condo-US PRESSWIRE

After a down season, Durham bounces back in 2013 to win the International League title

Mike Montgomery could get a chance to face his former organization Tuesday in the AAA Championship.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (6-1)

Durham exploded early and shut down Pawtucket in a championship clinching 7-0 win. Jason Bourgeois singled home what proved to be the winning run in the first inning, and after a two run homer by Kevin Kiermaier in the second, the Bulls were off and running. In the sixth inning, already up 4-0, Mike Fontenot kicked off a three run frame by tripling home a run, and Kiermaier and Cole Figueroa eventually followed him with RBI hits of their own. With the great run support, Merrill Kelly turned in a great start, striking out seven batters, walking none and only allowing two hits in six innings. Three Bulls relievers, Jeff Beliveau, Steve Geltz and Adam Liberatore, combined to finish the game with three perfect innings. From the leadoff spot, Kiermaier drove in three runs on two hits. Vince Belnome reached base three times.

Star of the day- Durham was almost wire-to-wire the best team in the International League, and they capped it off with the championship.

Goat of the day- Pawtucket's offense was missing in action after a game one win.
