The Rays Tank: Praise DeJesus

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Tampa Bay defeated the Orioles in walkoff fashion last night, six hours and 54 minutes/18 innings AFTER the game had started.

Good Morning Everyone! In case you checked out early last night, the Rays defeated the Orioles 5-4 in walkoff fashion. IN THE EIGHTEENTH INNING… SIX HOURS AND 54 MINUTES AFTER THE GAME STARTED! Gene Simmons and Chewbacca were on hand to celebrate Tampa Bay’s longest played game in franchise history.

In a game that David Price started, the winning pitcher wound up being Jeremy Hellickson, who was scheduled to be Sunday’s starter. Jake Odorizzi also threw for 3.2 innings last night, allowing only one walk and one hit. Overall, eleven Rays pitchers were used, and with Hellickson throwing 2.1 innings, we’ll see what happens with Sunday’s starter.

In other news, Tampa Bay is now in sole possession of the first Wild Card spot. The Indians, thanks to a shortened seven-inning win, are a half-game behind the Rays, while the Rangers now sit a game behind Tampa Bay.

High-fives all around! Now, grab some coffee or an energy drink and get ready for today’s 1:05 PM matchup. Alex Cobb takes the mound against Miguel Gonzalez.
