It was a three hit shutout until one out in the ninth inning, and Fernando Rodney iced the game from there.
Alex Cobb boasted 12 strikeouts and 11 groundouts before a triple (Chris Davis) and a single allowed the first run of the Baltimore offense. Rodney got two ground outs of his own, and a 2:51 game was in the books.
The Rays offense was backed by Desmond Jennings, who went yard on a fastball low and inside, scoring three runs after walks by Jose Molina and Yunel Ecobar, then added insurance in the seventh. Escobar and Jennings each triples, scoring a run, and DJ scored on the next play behind a Zobrist single to center field.
Cobb threw 117 pitches in his stellar outing, eating all but two outs in the game when the Rays needed it most, but he gave much of the credit to the players behind him:
"You can't put into words how appreciative you are when you're on the mound and these guys after an 18-inning game when you're in bed sleeping while they're putting together a win, and they come out with the same intensity for you the next day," Cobb told ESPN. "It's amazing."
The Rays hold a one game lead in the Wild Card standings after tonights win, and have two left to play against the Orioles.
