Rays down on the farm September 6: Bowling Green swept

Reinaldo Lopez had a good season, but he struggled Thursday - Jim Donten

The Hot Rods are now 0-6 in team history in postseason play

Durham moved a step closer to reaching the International League Championship though.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (2-0)

A five run first inning got Durham off to a quick start in their game two 6-5 win over Indianapolis. The Bulls used four extra base hits in that inning, capped off by a two run homer by Leslie Anderson. Vince Belnome also doubled home a pair of runs. J.D. Martin cruised with the early run support, only allowing a two run homer in the seventh inning to Jerry Sands. He finished with two runs allowed on eight hits in eight innings with three strikeouts and no walks. In the bottom of the seventh, Kevin Kiermaier reached on an error to lead off the frame, Craig Albernaz got him into scoring position with a sac bunt, and Cole Figueroa singled him home. That run proved to be huge because Steve Geltz would allow a three run homer to Sands in the ninth without recording an out, cutting the game to a one run lead. Kirby Yates was summoned, and he struck out all three batters he faced to get the win. Indianapolis starter Graham Godfrey also didn't record an out. Figueroa and Bourgeois had two hit games.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (2-1)

Charlotte was shut down by former Rays draft pick Pierce Johnson in a game one 5-0 loss to Daytona. Johnson struck out six, walked none and allowed five hits in five innings of work, and two Cub relievers combined to be effective over the last four innings. Meanwhile, Jesse Hahn got hit hard early on, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks in just 1.1 innings, but he did record all four outs on strikeouts. Jared Mortensen was more effective in long relief. He allowed a run on four hits and two walks in 4.2 innings with six strikeouts. Jake Hager had three of Charlotte's nine hits, and Jeff Malm had two. Dan Vogelbach was 0/3 for Daytona.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (0-2)

Bowling Green scored some late runs to make it closer, but they were swept out of the postseason with a game two 9-5 loss. The Hot Rods actually got on the board first with an unearned run in the top of the second, but the TinCaps went on to score all nine of their runs in the following four innings. Hunter Renfroe drove in the tying run, and he would score the go-ahead run later in the inning. Already up 7-1 in the fourth, Rodney Daal capped off a four run inning with a two run homer. It was not Reinaldo Lopez's day, and he allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk in three innings with two strikeouts. Andrew Hanse was charged with the other five runs, but only two were earned. Bowling Green would score their final four runs in the three innings after Fort Wayne's four run frame, but the tying run never came to the plate. Tyler Goeddel hit two doubles, and Patrick Leonard reached base three times.
