Rays 4, Mariers 6: Another Close One Slips Away

Otto Greule Jr

An error in the eighth inning leads to another Rays loss

Since the west coast is the worst coast and the game ended sometime around 1:45 am here's a quick recap of the action.

-Delmon Young got the Rays on the board in the second inning with a leadoff home run. He'd add a double later in the game.

-Alex Cobb got through six innings allowing four runs in the process. The biggest blows came in the third inning when the Mariners scored two runs with two outs.

-Luke Scott's two out, pinch hit double in the eighth tied the game. It should have scored two runs, however, but Sean Rodriguez got picked off second base. That's a mistake that should never happen, especially not when your team is down a run late in the game. Evan Longoria came up with a men on second and third but grounded out to third.

-Joe Peralta came on to pitch the eighth. Franklin Gutierrez struck out and Kyle Seager hit a ball to center which Desmond Jennings dropped, allowing him to advance to second. Kendrys Morales walked and Michael Saunders struck out. Justin Smoak hit a shot to right field that Wil Myers nearly came up with, the ball bouncing off the hell of his glove allowing both runners to score.

With the Yankees loss and wins by the Orioles and Indians, the Rays lead for the second wild card spot is down to just two games.
