Light schedule yesterday with All-Star breaks and a rainout. Princeton gets underway tonight, and you can check out their roster here.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (43-32)
After skipping his last turn in the rotation, Nathan Karns got a rude awakening in Durham's 12-8 morning loss to Louisville. Karns lasted just 2.2 innings and lost two leads handed to him by a productive Bulls offense. Down 3-1 in the third, Durham batted around with a stretch that included five batters out of six picking up hits, and the four run inning gave them their second lead of the game. That's when Karns fell apart. The Bats piled on five more runs to retake the lead, all of which would be charged to Karns. He finished with eight runs allowed on eight hits and a walk in 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Durham would eventually score three more runs later in the game, but Merrill Kelly got tagged with a four run inning that ultimately put the game out of reach. Every Bull had at least one hit, led by the rehabbing Brandon Guyer batting leadoff. He hit two triples and reached base five times. Six of Durham's 14 hits were for extra bases, and Ray Olmedo also had more than one with a pair of doubles.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (35-35)
Montgomery was off.
Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (0-0)
Charlotte was postponed.
Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (32-37)
Bowling Green was off.
Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades (4-2)
A late Renegades rally was negated by a late rally from Brooklyn in Hudson Valley's 10 inning 4-3 loss. They broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh, but they gave that run back in the top of the eighth. The teams repeated this pattern an inning later, and the game went to extras. After he blew the save in the ninth, Edgar Gomez was tagged with the eventual winning run, but it was unearned because of two errors committed to open the 10th. Gomez allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk in 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.
This effort wasted another nice start from Hunter Wood. After allowing a first inning solo home run, Wood settled in and did not face much trouble after that. He finished with just the run allowed on two hits and two walks in 5.2 innings with two strikeouts. Hunter Lockwood had two more hits, but most of the damage came from the bottom of the lineup. Coty Blanchard had three hits, and Wilmer Dominguez had two.
