Recap: San Francisco vs. San Diego

Sports Network | August 24, 2008

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Bengie Molina matched a career-high with five runs batted in, leading the Giants to a comeback victory over the San Diego Padres, 7-4, in the finale of a weekend series at AT&T Park.

Molina finished the game 3-for-4 with a homer and double and Fred Lewis had three hits and three runs scored. Randy Winn went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI to give San Francisco its fifth straight victory.

Kevin Correia (3-7) got his first win since July 28, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking two. He has posted a quality start in four of his past five outings. Brian Wilson pitched a perfect ninth for his NL-leading 35th save of the year.

Josh Banks threw three-plus shaky innings, giving up one run on five hits with one strikeout and one walk. He left in the fourth with the bases loaded and nobody out, but Justin Hampson was able to work out of the jam. Mike Adams (1-3) took the loss for the second consecutive game after giving up the home run to Molina.

Brian Giles homered and Luis Rodriguez and Kevin Kouzmanoff each added two hits for the Padres, who have now dropped seven straight games.

The Giants put up four runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead. Emmanuel Burriss worked a walk to lead off, and after being sacrificed to second Winn hit an RBI single to go up 4-3. Later in the frame with two on and two out, Molina hit a home run that barely cleared the fence to put San Francisco up by four.

The Padres made it a 7-4 game in the eighth on Josh Bard's one-out RBI single to score Edgar Gonzalez, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. Jody Gerut came up later in the frame with the bases loaded and two outs, but he struck out looking to end the threat.

San Diego went up 1-0 in the first on Giles' ninth homer of the year, a lead- off shot off Correia.

The Padres extended their lead in the fourth. Four consecutive one-out singles from Kouzmanoff, Chase Headley, Gonzalez and Nick Hundley plated two runners for a 3-0 lead. They would re-load the bases with two outs, but Rodriguez flied out to end the threat.

Lewis and Molina hit back-to-back doubles to begin the Giants' half of the fourth, cutting the deficit to two.

Banks didn't get out of the frame, getting yanked after loading the bases on an Aaron Rowand hit-by-pitch and a Pablo Sandoval single. Hampson was brought on in relief, and he got Rich Aurilia to ground into a fielder's choice, Burriss to strike out and Correia to foul out to escape without any further damage.

Molina hit a one-out RBI single off Brian Falkenborg in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game. Two batters later, Sandoval tied the game with a single to score Lewis, who singled earlier in the frame.
