Ron Mahay a Ray?

Probably the best read of the off-season is Marc Topkin's Sunday column, this week was no different, amongst the topics; the stadium plans, letting Josh Paul walk, and people in baseball expecting 30 homeruns from Evan Longoria since you know, everybody kinda loves him.

Perhaps the most interesting part is that the Rays are interested in Ron Mahay, or Topkin at least implies it. He's a bit older, but a career .225 BAA versus lefties makes him a nice LOOGY candidate, and without doubt he'd be better than Kurt Birkins and Jon Switzer next season even as a 36/37 year old.

Re: Ron Mahay a Ray?
I live in North Carolina where we get to see every Braves game (thrilling, I know) so I got to see a lot of Mahay. He's solid, and I believe worth a couple of years, odd mechanics too, look at that picture, it's unusual for a lefty to be that over the top with his delivery, it shortens the look a lefty hitter gets even more. Worth the money.

Good observation
On his delivery; I haven't seen much of Mahay, but he'll likely demand a contract near or equal to that of Jamie Walker, especially with the Phillies giving a terrible deal to J.C. Romero.

3/10-12 sounds about right.

Re: Ron Mahay a Ray?
With the Romero deal taking the relief market to ridiculous heights, I'm not sure buying pen help is a greta idea. Mahay is solid, but a Walker deal seems high - but very possible now.

Imagine what Linebrink's gona get, let alone the closers.

I think I hate Pat Gillick
First getting Lidge, now re-signing Romero to one of the stupidest contracts in recent memory (Juan Pierre lives on!)
