McClung Traded For Balfour

Seth McClung has been traded to the Brewers for Grant Balfour.

Balfour, 29, is originally from the Twins organization spent last season recovering from surgery. This year he's recently been with the Nashville Sound his stat line: 32 IP, 17 H, 6 ER, 2 HR, 47 K, 11 BB (no 'ball four' jokes), 4.8 H/9, 0.56 HR/9, 3 BB/9, 13 K/9 (!), a 1.69 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP.

Grant will join the Rays pen tomorrow, with Ryu likely headed to AAA.

Scouting report: (TSN.ca)
Balfour has some good heat, into the mid-90s, and he mixes it with a strong sinker/slider combo. He's a rare righty that's killer against left-handed hitters.

Re: McClung Traded For Balfour
WOW! This trade floored me

First off, being a native midwesterner and considering I'm on a friendship level with Seth, it's good for me.

It's good for Seth, in the fact that he goes from Xavier Hernandez to Mike Maddux. Awesome news for him.

And for us, Balfour is a pretty decent reliever. He's a bit old(30), but he's probably better than Camp/Stokes/Fossum.

Re: McClung Traded For Balfour
This is one of those type deals where we have nothing to lose. If he gives us a decent arm in the pen then it works out great, if he gets rocked we only gave up McClung who was not going to work out for us anyway. Next year I believe we would have to keep him up (McClung) or risk him thru waivers if we tried to send him down.
Coming off Injury Balfour may just need a little big league time to settle down and get in the groove and if there is one thing we have plenty of this year it is the time to see what we have.

Re: McClung Traded For Balfour
Slowly putting a bullpen together...

Salas
Reyes
Balfour

What's next? Orvella comes back(hope not)? Ridgway takes Fossum's spot(not really gaining anything, but losing Fossum is good)?

Thayer will probably be up in September.

Awesome blurb by rotoworld
'Balfour has a bunch of arm surgeries, while McClung has never developed'

Note to rotoworld: See 2003, Seth had TJS.

Re: McClung Traded For Balfour
Cool, an Aussie pitcher who is better than the pitcher we gave up.  The high tendency for injury is the only downside.
