Pena Deal Slowly in the Works

The Rays are starting talks with Pena, but the details of a deal are yet to be known, according to the Heater.

Pena said several "possibilities" remain "on the table" as far as whether he signs for one season or signs a multiyear deal. Agent Scott Boras has spoken with executive VP Andrew Friedman several times but it sounds like the major negotiating is still to come.

Interesting stuff, curious as too how much it would take to hold down Carlos to a long team deal. I know I speak for most out there, when I say he has become a wonderful member of this community, and it would be nice to have him around for the future.

Re: Pena Deal Slowly in the Works
Ya I would love to keep him here, He stated over and over he loves being here, with these guys, in this town.  He is a solid guy, and could do wonders for the team, even if they do draft Alvarez in rd 1 in June, we could always use the Young Slugger as a DH =)

Re: Pena Deal Slowly in the Works
It always comes down to how much for how long. And didn't Friedman say if no deal by figures deadline it's to a hearing they go?

I'd go to arb with Carlos this year since he's still under control next. I don't believe in extending off a spike year - but if he backs it up prepare to pay. Always a risk both ways. Get a good deal if you can, but it's hard for me to imagine Boras is gonna let him go cheap. Kaz I'd extend in a heartbeat.

Re: Pena Deal Slowly in the Works
Carlos Pena has always been one of those players that i hoped the rays would get because he has always had that load of talent and finally figured out that he can become a superstar in this league. so Please Friedman sign this superstar to a longterm deal ASAP!!!
