Not This Again, Aybar Jailed

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Willy Aybar is in custody in his native Dominican Republic for domestic violence charges, according to a local prosecutor.

"Aybar is in jail since last week, and he could spend at least three more months in jail if he is convicted of domestic violence," said Jesus Fernandez Velez, the appeals court prosecutor in charge.

Good to see he's willing to take advantage of another chance. I won't take the sensationalist approach and assume him guilty, but I'm disappointed that he'd put himself in any situation that could result in an arrest, particularly a week and some from reporting to his job.

Re: So is it
I plan on using italian for the few times we may see a Rocco Baldelli HR. Possibly Japanese for Aki, but I don't think "Nutts" will appreciate it.

Re: Not This Again, Aybar Jailed
This doesn't look good at all, especially considering that the team said they did their homework.  You want to trust and believe in people and this happens.  Some people don't get how lucky or fortunate they are.

Terrible news... but it's time for me to get back on my invite Chris Nowak to ML Camp soapbox!  He's a better option than Guzman.

Re: Not This Again, Aybar Jailed
Seriously, come on. I don't understand how someone can make money doing something like playing sports for a living, and still not have their act and thank god that's what they do. Really, come on.

I just have no tolerance for something like this.

Re: Not This Again, Aybar Jailed
Is it too soon to ask that we withhold judgment until the situation plays itself out a bit? If he is held guilty, I assume he will be punished by the authorities, and while I do not like private businesses to add their own penalties to the official ones, I would not be upset if the Rays cut ties with him. If it turns out he is not guilty, then we should simply get on with baseball and be glad he is on the team.

Remember that shortly before coming to the Rays Julio Lugo was implicated in a spousal abuse situation, but while here was a model citizen. It is not always cut and dried. And I do not see much call on the Phillies to cut Brett Myers. (Am I right that he also was implicated in something similar?)

Update
The latest that I've heard is that the victim is dropping charges but hasn't made it official yet.

Re: Not This Again, Aybar Jailed
I bet Andrew Friedman is feeling real good about this trade now. What the heck was he thinking? Left handed relievers aren't an easy find and we traded a decent one in Jeff Ridgeway. I hope this thing blows over, but right now it doesn't look good.

Re: Not This Again, Aybar Jailed
Of course.  Ridgeway was the answer.  Why couldn't I see that?  ;-)
