There's been a lot of talk lately about dealing one of our pitchers to get a backup Center Fielder and Left-Handed Bat. What if you get fill that need cheaply and without losing a pitcher in trade?

What about Steve Finley?

The Negatives:

43 years old to be exact.

Can he hit?

The Positives:

Even at his age he is still an above average defender at a position of need.

He'll come cheap.

He bats lefty.

He's a good veteran presence.

Outs per Swing is speculating that the Rays may wait for teams to release players whose options are up and do not make the roster. He lists quite a few possibilities, and although I find it hard to believe that Ankiel or Werth will be released, some others on his list are possibilities. He seems to like Delwyn Young, but I have read that his defense is so awful that he could not be used even as a part-time outfielder.
