Rocco Not Ready to Go

Lancaster, the team doesn't seem too sure when he'll play again. As for the rumors surrounding Rocco and his health, at this point I can't say one way or the other on them.

Re: Rocco Not Ready to Go
"Here's the Astros' lineup, featuring a solid citizen on the hot corner:

Michael Bourn CF
Jose Cruz Jr. DH
Hunter Pence RF
Geoff Blum 2B
Ty Wigginton 3B
Victor Diaz LF
Lance Niekro 1B
Tomas Perez SS
Humberto Quintero C
Runelvys Hernandez P "

Is it just me, or is that 4 ex-Rays in the starting lineup.

"Rocco Baldelli is an "anathema""

"I do not think that word means what you think it means." Mandy Patinkin

Perhaps you meant enigma? Or just that he's cursed, hence your usage. Technically your use is correct, but the spirit of the word is something hateful. That would be a little harsh -Rocco seems like a nice enough guy. But feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.

Re: Rocco Not Ready to Go
i don't understand. hasn't he been running for months? getting himself into the best shape he's ever been in (his words). i have to assume as part of his rehab, he's been running fairly often. they wouldn't have brought him into a game if he hadn't run in months, so why the hell would running to first base a couple times aggravate this? something is real fishy, none of this makes any sense.

Re: Rocco Not Ready to Go
It means he's really hurt.

Being in shape, and the best shape of his life doesn't necessarily mean he's been running.  You can do anaerobic exercise and get in incredible shape without running.  Doing high reps without much rest in between sets keeps your heart rate high for a long period of time and builds up muscle endurance as well as cardiovascular endurance.  In fact you burn more calories and actually build muscle that way.

Re: Rocco Not Ready to Go
actually the reports were that Rocco was running without restrictions three times a week prior to spring training.

Re: Rocco Not Ready to Go
and those being the reports i was basing my assessment off of, i reiterate my amazement that after running for weeks, possibly months now, many times a week, that he would need over a week or rest just from running to 1st base twice.

Looks like a new round of Bonds rumors.

Re: Rocco Not Ready to Go
If Rays start the the season by putting Rocco on the DL, they would be better off releasing him. Maybe they can recoup some money be letting him go. In the very least they can save money because right now they are wasting it. It's unbelievable that someone with such potential never amounted to much of anything. Though he had a couple of good years with the Rays, for some reason I connect him with Josh Hamilton and even Elijah Dukes. An example of players who put on a Rays uniform that were drafted by the team, but didn't do much with the club. I hope for the best with Rocco, but it's like a lost cause. I can't keep waiting. Where's Barry Bond's agents phone number?

Re: Rocco Not Ready to Go
they can't jut release him. they would have to pay him $2.5MM this year and buyout his 2009 option at $4MM

that is $6.5MM out the window for nothing in return.

Re: Rocco Not Ready to Go
"We're going to monitor the Rocco thing and see where this goes," Maddon said. "And if it's not so good, then one of these guys may get more of an opportunity at that point."

this all sounds very vague. it seems like mgmt knows a lot more about this issue then they are letting on. any truth to the rumors of a degenerative muscle disease?

either way, there is something they aren't telling us.

"Either way, there is something they aren't telling us."

Absolutely, and by doing so they might be respecting Rocco's wishes. You'll know by April 1st just how serious things are.
