Dave Magadan, the "poor mans Wade Boggs" in his day, is coaching this year for Padres.
"He's fiery," said infielder Mark Loretta, suggesting it is not a surprising trait for the cousin of former Rays manager Lou Piniella. "He's very into the game, and he takes it hard when we don't do well."
Lets bring the former hitting star home. Magadan always kept the approach to hitting that he would draw on success that got him to the majors. He did not try to be a hitter he was not. Not sure if he applies that approach to the existing Padre players. But, he seems to have the fiery approach that Lou has. He could make a decent hitting coach for this team.
