Pitching Matchup

Breakdown

NYY-RH Jaret Wright (0-2, 7.20):

Wright takes the mound for his third start of the season, looking to build on his last one as he pitches on regular rest for the first time in 2006. Wright allowed four runs in five innings against the Blue Jays on Friday, though he showed signs of improvement with his sinker, inducing four double play balls.

vs RAYS: 5-1, 4.47 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 30:25 K:BB

Batter v. Pitcher:

Jonny Gomes-5 ABs, 2.067 OPS, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB

RAYS-LH Casey Fossum (1-1, 6.11):

After a performance against the Rangers in which he surrendered four home runs, Fossum recovered nicely against the Red Sox on Friday when he pitched six scoreless innings to record his first win since Aug. 26 against the Angels. Fossum has a 4-4 career mark against the Yankees with a 4.62 ERA in 16 appearances.

Lineups

New York
CF Johnny Damon
SS Derek Jeter
DH Jason Giambi
3B Alex Rodriguez
LF Hideki Matsui
RF Bernie Williams
2B Robinson Cano
1B Andy Phillips
C Kelly Stinnett

-Jorge Posada gets the night off for New York as Kelly Stinnett takes over the backstop, and Andy Phillips squeezes into the lineup at first, but other that, it is the normal murderer's row. Though Bernie Williams in the six hole and in right field should provide some comic relief.

RAYS
CF Joey Gathright
LF Carl Crawford
DH Jonny Gomes
2B Ty Wigginton
C Toby Hall
1B Travis Lee
RF Damon Hollins
3B Sean Burroughs
SS Tomas Perez

-Good lineup today, seems like Maddon is using the "facts", something Lou seems allergic to. As long as Gathright keeps taking the walks, I have nor problem with him being in the leadoff spot, though if Carl keeps struggling, he may be dropped from the top of the order when Lugo returns. Other than that, I'd flip flop Lee and Hollins, simply because Hollins has a much better bat at this point, even against righties, and I would love for him to hit another homer tonight. Burroughs and Perez round out the useless slots at #s 8 and 9, respectively.
