The Rays have signed Hector Gimenez to a minor league deal. Gimenez, a former Houston Astros catcher, is only 25, and was signed out of Venezuela at the tender age of 17.
He's played C/1B/3B, basically a lite combo of Navarro and Michael Barrett, so it's not a bad deal at all, and I'd imagine he'll be the reserve man at Durham in case Riggans or Navarro were to stumble -- literally -- and Jaso isn't ready. Gimenez missed all of 2007 recovering from rotator cuff surgery.
