In the above-linked Washington Post article is documented an odd bit of research. The study, done by a professor at Tennessee Tech University, suggests that a pitcher born in the South is more likely than a pitcher from another region in the country to hit a batter--not randomly, but in certain situations, such as after giving up a home run or after a teammate has been hit by a pitch.
