Even more Wiggy....

Newark Star Ledger:  "The Yankees have been trying to get Wigginton from Tampa Bay for at least a week, and have spoken about using relief pitcher Scott Proctor as the bait. But they're not sure they want to make that deal yet, and have asked Tampa Bay if it would include reliever Al Reyes in return."

Journal News: "Several American League executives said that they wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees obtained Tampa Bay infielder Ty Wigginton before Tuesday's trade deadline."

That's all good and all (except trading Al Reyes and Wiggy for Proctor, unacceptable) but ummm...

Newday: "... The Yankees are not pursuing the Devil Rays' Ty Wigginton, a source said."

Don't you just love the trade deadline?

Also from Marc Topkin:

INF Ty Wigginton remained with the Rays despite a swirl of rumors.
The New York Post reported the Rays and Yankees "are moving closer" to a deal involving RHP Scott Proctor, but nothing appeared imminent. The Rays have talked with several teams but, contrary to reports, have not gotten to the point of discussing specific names with Boston.
The Mariners, meanwhile, have serious interest in reliever Al Reyes and, possibly, Edwin Jackson. A Mets scout also was at the Trop.
