Tampa Bay Rays to Change Advance Scouting Methods

The money (no pun intended) quote:

"We feel like net-net, this will provide us with the best information, up-to-date information and thorough information in a cost-effective way," he said.

Basically, the Rays are joining the ranks of the Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers, and a handful of other teams with this change. Using video, PitchF/x, and basic data application in place of sending out manpower for a limited amount of time. When done correctly i'm guessing there's next to no difference from traditional means and adds the perk of costing less. With zero travel fees and having a nearly unlimited applicant pool -- full of eager college age types hoping for a point on their résumé -- it's easy to see why this method is attractive to a team lower on the revenue curve.
