B.J. Upton Suffers Bruised Bone After Being Hit By Pitch

That breeze you feel outside right now is the collective sigh of relief by Rays fans around the area; B.J. Upton's injury is just a bone bruise. Upton was hit by a pitch today in a minor league game. He was hit near the pinkie giving us all thoughts of Carlos Pena, who missed several weeks in 2008 with a similar injury. He was participating in the game as part of his rehab from labrum surgery.  However, around 5 PM this evening the Rays announced that x-rays were negative and Upton was diagnosed with a bone bruise. There is no time table for a return to the field as he is listed as day-to-day. Upton was scheduled to return to Major League action this week, but even if the injury is as minor as it sounds, it will probably delay Upton's return to the Rays and could further jeopardize his bid to make the opening day roster.
