Ed Price brought us the original Rays/Rockies rumors and he has an update. According to Price, a deal between the two teams could happen soon. Price quotes an official from one of the teams as saying "something may happen this weekend." Well seeing as opening day rosters have to be set by 3 pm tomorrow that seems a bit obvious.
Reports from Troy Renck of the Denver Post have targeted Hammel, but this is the first time I've seen Niemann's name associated with the Rockies. Price's article again mentions that the Rays are looking at Colorado's prospects from the AA level and below. So far we have not heard any of the names the Rays may be looking at.
Trading Hammel or Niemann would free up a spot for Lance Cormier in the Rays bullpen.
