It took all 162 games, but the Rays showed the Yankees who's boss. For the second time in three years, the Rays are the American League East champions - the best team in the toughest division in baseball. Anything can happen in the playoffs, but even if the Rays get eliminated early, this accomplishment can't be taken away from them. Being the best over 162 games is a lot tougher than being the best over five or seven games, and I'm incredibly proud of the Rays right now. This was the victory I really wanted: to stick it to the Yankees and Red Sox and show them that we are every bit as good as them - and better!
We'll have some brief analysis of today's game up later, but for now, enjoy the feeling of victory. This is what we were hoping for in February. This is what we've been working toward for all these months. Congratulations to the 2010 Rays - this is one heck of a team!
