Trade season is here! While we haven't technically hit July yet, it's approaching quite rapidly and the trade rumor mill is already heating up. I'd love to do some trade target posts here at DRB, much like we've done in years past, but I'd love to get some input from everyone before diving into this project.
The Rays are in an interesting place this season, as they have the potential to be both buyers and sellers, which makes this deadline different than last season (where we were all hoping that the Rays were going to buybuybuy). So here are some basic questions to ponder and debate:
- If the Rays decide to try and acquire a player, who do you think they might target? Friedman has hinted recently that he's looking into adding a reliever or DH/OFer, and he'd obviously prefer the players to be a good long-term fit.
- And even if you don't have a particular player in mind, are there any clubs you think might make good trading partners with the Rays?
- If the Rays are going to shop around some players, who do you think is the likeliest candidate to go? I've made it clear that I expect the Rays to shop Upton hard this deadline, but there are some other names on the roster that could get moved (Farnsworth has been mentioned). And while it's tough to pick exact players when you're looking at a player-for-prospects swap, which teams do you think would be interested in buying Upton/etc.?
Have at it!
