There's little to no news concerning the Rays at the moment. With that being the case lets look at some free agency news involving the rest of the league.
Hiroki Kuroda is open to signing a one year contract, and the Yankees plan to tender him an offer. That's bad news for Rays fans. Kuroda was great in his first season in New York. The Yankees would have a hard time matching his production were he to go elsewhere.
The Giants won't make a qualifying offer to Angel Pagan, allowing him to walk without receiving any compensation. He had a pretty good season in San Fran, and it looks especially good when you consider he replaced the terrible Aaron Rowand. I can see why they wouldn't, though, as the offer might be one he actually accepts. As D.J. Short of Hardball Talk points out, the dollar amount is determined by the average of the top 125 salaries in the game, meaning it would be $13.3 million. I've always liked Pagan, hopefully he lands a multi-year deal somewhere.
The Yankees are interested in Torii Hunter. A lot of teams should be interested in Hunter. He can still play above average defense and isn't dead weight at the plate. As a Rays fan I'd like to see him go elsewhere.
-This piece on FanGraphs by Carson Cisutlli about the game's most selective hitters was a great read.
-ESPN's David Schoenfield gives his list of the top 10 storylines of the offseason.
-Saturday is the AFL Rising Stars game and the Rays have two players on the rosters -- Hak-Ju Lee and C.J. Riefenhauser. Watch it on MLB Network or MLB.com.
