The Rays Tank: Taylor Guerrieri talks pitching with FanGraphs

Taylor Guerrieri was the Rays top draft pick in 2011, and after a superb season down in the New York-Penn League, he's in the running for the title of the Rays top pitching. In fact, he was just rated by the DRaysBay readers as the #2 prospect in the Rays' system at the moment, narrowly behind Chris Archer.

Guerrieri spoke with David Laurila at the Futures Games this year, and the interview is currently up on FanGraphs. The full thing is worth reading, but here's on short excerpt:

DL: What else is in your repertoire?

TG: I throw a curveball and a changeup. I'd say my curveball is above average and my changeup is a work in progress. It's getting there, but it's a pitch I really just started developing in spring training. It's a split-change. I vary with it, but the majority of time it's a split-change.

Somehow, the fact that Guerrieri started throwing a changeup after spring training with the Rays is one of the least surprising things ever. It sounds like the pitch is still a work in progress, but the rest of Guerrieri's repertoire more than makes up for it for now.

Again, you can find the full interview at FanGraphs.
