Down On The Farm: April 23rd

About a week or so ago, Steve e-mailed me asking if I'd like to come on board in an effort to beef up the daily minor league recaps. Much to the chagrin of likely everyone, I accepted. The DRB team will now be providing game recaps and more information than ever before, and we hope you'll enjoy. This is a work in progress, so suggestions and feedback is encouraged and appreciated. AAA Durham Bulls (6-11)

Durham was rained out in Pawtucket.

AA Montgomery Biscuits (9-9)

A late surge by Montgomery gave them a 7-3 win against Pensacola on Sunday. They scored all seven runs between the 6th and 8th innings, getting Blue Wahoos starter Daniel Corcino out of the game after six innings and then scoring four off their bullpen. Biscuits outfielder and Rays Prospects favorite Henry Wrigley hit a pair of two-run doubles to lead the attack. The Biscuits stole five bases, including three by Omar Luna who reached base four times. Starter Frank De Los Santos lasted five innings, allowing two runs and striking out just one. Adam Liberatore allowed an inherited runner to score that was charged to Alex Koronis.

High-A Charlotte Stone Crabs (7-9)

Palm Beach struck early and often in their 11-1 win over Charlotte. The Stone Crabs didn't score their lone right until the 9th inning when a double by Riccio Torrez brought home Derek Dietrich after his leadoff walk. Starter Grayson Garvin had no problem retiring the Cardinals in the first inning, but three doubles in the second put Charlotte in an early 3-0 hole. Two innings later, the first six Cardinals batters reached base in what became a six run inning, and George Jensen didn't fare any better than Garvin, allowing five runs in two innings. Torrez and Hector Guevera were the only Stone Crabs to reach base more than one time.

Low-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (12-5)

With two runners in scoring position and one out in the 9th, Quad Cities elected to intentionally walk Todd Glaesmann to load the bases. Jeff Malm made them pay with a walkoff single to give Bowling Green a 4-3 win. Glaesmann's solo home run in the first inning gave the Hot Rods a quick 1-0 lead. Bowling Green led 2-0 going into the 5th inning when their defense betrayed them. Errors by Cameron Seitzer and Felipe Rivero, his second of the game, allowed Quad Cities to score three unearned runs without hitting a ball out of the infield. The score remained 3-2 until the 9th when an error by Quad Cities helped facilitate the two run Bowling Green rally.

Star of the day- Henry Wrigley. His two doubles jump-started the Biscuits offense and allowed them to put the game away.

Goat of the day- Grayson Garvin. He only lasted three innings, and he put the Stone Crabs in a hole they couldn't get out of.
