The offenses for Charlotte and Bowling Green took cues from their parent club last night. Drew Vettleson was robbed of a walkoff grand slam though, and you can see the great catch here (or apparently on ESPN).
AAA Durham Bulls (28-39)
Durham enjoyed an off day.
AA Montgomery Biscuits (34-30)
A five-run 2nd inning for Montgomery propelled them to a 6-3 win over Huntsville. They batted around and did most of the damage with two outs and were assisted by some self-inflicted wounds by the Stars. A Hak-Ju Lee single with one out plated the first run of the game, and after a Ty Morrison strikeout, Omar Luna's double followed by a Ryan Garko single scored three more. Garko would later score the final run of the inning on a wild pitch. Starter Jake Thompson wasn't particularly sharp and could only make it through five innings. He allowed three runs, two earned on seven hits and three walks while only striking out two. Luna's three hit, two double game continued his current hot streak, and Garko added three hits of his own to raise his average to .337.
High-A Charlotte Stone Crabs (27-36)
Charlotte's 9th inning run broke a 0-0 tie, but they could not hold the lead and fell 2-1 to Jupiter. Both starters, Albert Suarez and Edgar Olmos, each went seven innings with Suarez probably pitching a bit better. He struck out four, only allowing four hits and walking three. The Stone Crabs got their run when a balk advanced Luke Bailey to second base after he failed to successfully lay down a sac bunt. A Cody Rogers groundout moved Bailey to third, and Hector Guevara's single scored him. Eliazer Suero threw a 1-2-3 8th, but when he walked the leadoff batter in the 9th, closer Chris Rearick was summoned. After loading the bases with a walk and a strikeout, Rearick got two outs in a row and nearly saw his way through the inning. However, Taylor Krick delivered a walkoff two-run single for the Hammerheads.
Low-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (35-31)
Despite outhitting White Michigan 14-5, Bowling Green fell to the Whitecaps 4-2 Wednesday afternoon. The Whitecaps scored all four of their runs in the 3rd inning against spot starter Andrew Bellatti, filling in for Jake Floethe who landed on the DL with a back problem. Prior to 2012, Bellatti was primarily a starter in his Rays career, but this was his first start of the season. He cruised through the first two innings, but after loading the bases with two outs in the third, Steven Moya hit a grand slam to put the Whitecaps up 4-0. After hitting a batter, Bellatti recorded the last out of the inning and was taken out of the game. Six Hot Rods, including Ryan Brett, Drew Vettleson, Jeff Malm and Josh Sale, had multi-hit games. Malm's day included his 6th home run of the season. In relief of Bellatti, Jake Partridge threw six scoreless innings and struck out five.
Star of the day- Albert Suarez was pretty good for Charlotte, but the bullpen couldn't hold the one run lead.
Goat of the day- Charlotte's offense was completely shut down by Edgar Olmos.
