Down On The Farm: June 18

Short-season ball is underway, with Hudson Valley and the GCL Rays starting yesterday and Princeton going today. Much of the Rays minor league talent resides in the lower levels, so seeing the results for these teams should be exciting.

AAA Durham Bulls

Behind a strong pitching performance by Jim Paduch, the Bulls defeated Rochester 6-1. Paduch went six strong innings, allowing only one run. Ryan Reid was the only reliever used, pitching the final three scoreless innings. The Bull's offense collected 16 hits on the day, with Allen, Anderson, and Brignac each collecting three hits.

AA Montgomery did not play.

High-A Port Charlotte

In a close game, the Stone Crabs came up just short, losing to Palm Beach 5-4. Palm Beach committed three costly errors, yet the Stone Crabs could not take advantage. Farnsworth received the start and went 1 inning, allowing 1 run on 1 hit. Enny Romero came in and 6 innings, allowing three runs on 5 hits and 1 walk. Nate Garcia gave up the costly 9th inning run. Palm Beach's starter McGregor hit 4 Stone Crabs batters. Phil Wunderlich collected 3 hits.

Low-A Bowling Green did not play.

Class A Short Season Hudson Valley

It was a triumphant opening day for the Renegades, who defeated Aberdeen 7-3. Jeff Ames, a 2011 first round pick, made the start, throwing 5 innings while allowing 1 earned run. He struck out 5 while walking 1. Ian Kendall and Matt Spann, two players expected to be in the HV rotation, both came in relief. Leonardo Reginatto was the star for the Renegades, going 4-4 on the day.

Rookie Level GCL

The GCL Rays had several rehabbing players who helped lead them to a 3-2 victory over the GCL Red Sox. Nick Barnese allowed 1 earned run in his 5 innings while Linsky recorded a 2 inning save. Beltran, Araiza, and Correa all had multi-hit games.
