As you may have seen on this here sight, day one of the MLB draft was held last night. Unlike past years the Rays had only one pick on day one. Other teams had draft picks, though, and, if you're interested, here are some recaps for the rest of the day one action.
MLB and MLB again ESPN (Insider) also has some good write-up's from Keith Law. MLB.com also has a good read about the first overall pick, Carlos Correa, and how he turned himself into the player he is in Puerto Rico.
The news is quiet on the Rays front. It hasn't been officially announced yet but Desmond Jennings is expected to re-join the team for tonight's game in New York. As a corresponding move expect everyone's favorite success story, Rich Thompson, to be designated for assignment. Getting Jennings back allows the Rays to play Matt Joyce more in right field and Ben Zobrist more at second base, helping stabilize the defense a bit. The move will also have an affect on the playing time of Hideki Matsui who had started a few games in left in Jennings absence. His return comes none too soon as the Rays are slated to face lefties C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte this series.
We'll have more coverage of the draft's second day once it gets underway at noon. What did you all think of the day one selections? Is there anyone you want the Rays to target this afternoon?
