As mentioned this morning, today is the deadline for teams to set their 40-man rosters prior to the Rule 5 draft without procedural complications.

Future deadlines will impact the Rule 5 draft as well, such as the deadline to tender players (Dec. 2), request outright waivers for players (Dec. 5) or finalize rosters (by Dec. 9), but today is the last day to outright an injured player to the Minor Leagues, if permissible, and to file reserve lists for all Major and Minor League levels.

With that in mind, this is the 40-man roster as of 11:00 AM, Nov. 20:

Pitchers B/T Catchers B/T
Chris Archer R-R Chris Gimenez R-R
Jeff Beliveau L-L Jose Lobaton S-R
Alex Cobb R-R Infielders B/T
Alex Colome R-R Tim Beckham R-R
Brandon Gomes R-R Yunel Escobar R-R
Jeremy Hellickson R-R Hak-Ju Lee L-R
Josh Lueke R-R Evan Longoria R-R
Jake McGee L-L Ben Zobrist S-R
Mike Montgomery L-L Outfielders B/T
Matt Moore L-L David DeJesus L-L
Jake Odorizzi R-R Sam Fuld L-L
Joel Peralta R-R Brandon Guyer R-R
David Price L-L Desmond Jennings R-R
Cesar Ramos L-L Matt Joyce L-R
Felipe Rivero L-L Kevin Kiermaier L-R
Enny Romero L-L Wil Myers R-R
Alex Torres L-L Sean Rodriguez R-R
Wesley Wright R-L

The Rays currently have 33 players on the roster, or seven openings. Now is the time for musing on who should stay, who should go, and who should be added!

The following are Scott Grauer's players to consider (in no particular order):

  • SP Jesse Hahn
  • RP C.J. Riefenhauser
  • INF Cole Figueroa
  • OF Todd Glaesmann
  • INF Vincent Belnome
  • C Luke Bailey
  • RP Kirby Yates
  • SP Merrill Kelly
  • SP Parker Markel
  • SS Juriel Querecuto
  • 1B Jeff Malm

Scott is not as concerned with other players highlighted by Rays Radio, such as LHRP's Braulio Lara -- who was selected by the Marlins and returned after last year's Rule 5 draft -- and Adam Liberatore.
