Down On The Farm June 22: Bowling Green No-No

A recap of the minor league action.

USA TODAY Sports

Triple-A Durham Bulls (47-28)

It was a rare off-night for the Bull's offense in Durham's 3-2 loss on Friday night. Ryan Roberts and Mike Fontenot each collected two hits. J.D. Martin went seven solid innings, surrendering three runs on eight hits and a walk. Jeff Beliveau pitched the final scoreless inning. Overall, the Bulls were only 2-12 with runners in scoring position.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (38-35)

For the first time in a while, Enny Romero's command faltered as he and the Biscuits lost, with the final score 9-3. After breezing through the first two innings, Romero lost command of his fastball in the third inning, walking two batters, including one to force in a run. In his five innings he allowed six hits, four runs, three walks, three strikeouts, and a home run. Neil Schenk, Braulio Lara, and Austin Hubbard all allowed runs in their relief work. After scoring two runs in the third inning to tie the game at three, the Biscuits' bats were quiet for the rest of the game.

Advanced Class-A Charlotte Stone Crabs (30-39)

A not-so-sharp David Price failed to lead the Stone Crabs to victory in their 4-3 loss in the first game of the double header. In his first rehab start, Price worked only 2.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks. He struck out four batters. Nate Garcia gave up the costly fourth run in the sixth inning. The Stone Crabs hitters managed five hits, none for extra bases, and two walks.

In the second game, Hahn rebounded finely from last time's outing with five brilliant innings, his longest outing of the year. He allowed only two singles (no walks) while whiffing five. Shay Crawford pitched two hit-less, scoreless innings in relief. Taylor Motter and Drew Vettleson both hit triples.

Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (40-30)

Four pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in the Hot Rods' blowout 14-1 win. Though Snell made the start and allowed an unearned run with no hits allowed, he walked five batters in three innings while striking out four. Eduar Quinonez, Nick Sawyer, and Marcus Jensen also chipped into the historic performance. The Hot Rod's scored their 14 runs on 15 hits, though none were home runs. Ryan Dunn went 4-4.

Class-A Short Season Hudson Valley Renegades (5-0)

The Renegades continued their perfect start by defeating Staten Island 5-3. 2011 draftee's John Alexander and James Harris both had two hits. Austin Pruitt and Aaron Griffin both pitched four innings; Pruit allowed no runs while Griffin allowed two.

Rookie Level Princeton Rays (0-2)

Despite a terrific start from Nolan Gannon, the Princeton Rays fell by the score of 3-2. Gannon, a promising fourth round pick in the 2012 draft, pitched five scoreless innings in his 2013 debut. More impressively, he allowed only one hit, did not walk a batter, and struck out four. However, Josh Kimborowicz, Stone Speer, and Darren Fischer each allowed a run in relief. Elias Torres went 2-4 with two doubles.

Rookie GCL Rays (1-0)

The GCL Rays won their season debut by the score of 7-6. Frank De Los Santos (rehab) and Mario Fernandez both pitched poorly, but Ruben Paredes pitched 3.2 perfect frames with five punchouts. Jake Hager went 2-4 in his rehab stint while Taylor Hawkins, an offensive minded catcher taken in last year's draft, hit two doubles.

Star of the Day: Bowling Greens' pitching staff combined for a no hitter, though they did walk plenty of batters.

Goat of the Day: It was a tough start for Enny Romero, the first of those in a while.
