After yesterday's listless game, Alex Colome was recalled from Durham to start the rubbermatch of the series against the Yankees. He will square off against C.C. Sabathia at 1:05. Josh Lueke was optioned to Durham to make room for Colome, who may be up for awhile. Alex Cobb's rehab timetable is uncertain.
The first and only time Colome pitched in the majors, he dominated the Marlins with a blazing rising fastball, a slider/cutter, and especially with a diving changeup that seemed far better than advertised. His storied curve was nowhere to be seen. I looked over the PITCHf/x data from that game, noting that he has the arsenal of an ace. Whether or not he gets there will depend entirely on command and control.
There was some discussion about the armside run of his fastball, and how it may be undersold by the PITCHf/x cameras at The Trop. That left me salivating for his first away start. His first away start begins in under three hours.
