The Rays Tank: Price's Return Could Be Soon

David Price will throw a bullpen session today that could very well determine when he will return to the Rays rotation.

There’s not too much to report on today as the Rays enjoyed a day off at home on Thursday. David Price will throw a bullpen session today and if all goes well, we could see him back in the rotation next week in Houston according to a Jim Hickey interview on 620 WDAE yesterday morning. Hickey also talked about Cobb’s progress and how Alex wants to get back to work immediately.

Bill Chastain of MLB.com wrote about Wil Myers transition into the majors and how he’s been adapting to what pitchers are throwing him. Myers talked about how most pitchers have been throwing backwards sequences to him. He said that pitchers have been staying away from him so far and are usually sticking to the outside half of the plate. Myers told Chastain,

"It's one of the adjustments I need to make the first couple of weeks. I thought when I got up here they were going to challenge me more. ... I noticed in New York, the first two games I only got one first-pitch fastball. So I noticed the guys were really starting to pitch me backwards to begin with."

Wil Myers spent his day off apartment hunting and shopping for a new wardrobe, according to Marc Topkin. Myers later tweeted that he found a place in St. Pete and was looking for suggestions for grub.

Tonight we’ll see two undefeated pitchers take the mound, Alex Colome against Max Scherzer. After the Rays lack of offense on Thursday, we can only hope that the off day rejuvenated the bats. In Scherzer’s last outing against the Rays on June 6th, he lasted seven innings, throwing nine strikeouts while allowing only one earned run on just four hits. First pitch is at 7:10.

-Would you like to see the Rays make a trade with the White Sox? Apparently, the White Sox are open to shopping everyone on the team with the exceptions of Chris Sale and Paul Konerko. I wouldn’t mind seeing our bullpen beefed up with Chicago reliever, Jesse Crain, who holds a 0.52 ERA and has 46 strikeouts over 34.2 innings pitched.

-Eno Sarris of FanGraphs examines some of Zack Wheeler’s pitches from his Tuesday outing, where many are saying Wheeler was tipping his pitches. Take a look at the .gifs and what do you notice?

-Scott Kazmir took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Wednesday and was absolutely dealing. David Schoenfield of ESPN’s The Sweet Spot wrote about how Kazmir’s return to MLB is one of the best stories of the year.

-MLB.com’s CUT4 asked fans who they thought should be the starting pitcher for the American League in the All-Star Game this year. I think we’re going to see the starter pitch tonight at the Trop. Sidenote-There is a guy wearing a Rockies hat with a Yankees shirt…what?!

-If the guy featured above is a Reid Brignac fan, he’ll be happy to know that Reid has signed a minor league contractwith the Colorado Rockies.

-Hey Cardinals, you forgot his signature band-aid!
