Triple-A Durham Bulls (62-35)
While the other Rays minor league affiliates struggle to stay around .500, the Durham Bulls just keep on winning, most recently by the score of 8-1. Matt Buschmann pitched dominantly, allowing only four hits and one run while striking out seven and walking none. Ramon Ramirez and Frank De Los Santos both pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Mike Fontenot took his turn as the offensive star, collecting three hits, one of them a double. All together, the Bulls offense combined for 12 hits and seven walks.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (47-47)
Friday's games that was suspended resumed on Saturday, and both teams got on the board quickly. However, the Biscuit's pitching had no answer for Pensacola's offense and eventually fell by the score of 12-4. Pensacola scored ten runs in the 5th through 8th innings. All four of Montgomery's pitchers allowed runs, with Marquis Fleming having a particularly bad outing. Todd Glaesmann chipped in two doubles offensively while Mark Thomas hit his fourth home run.
In the second game, the Biscuits rebounded by winning 6-0. Victor Mateo allowed a sole single in his complete game shutout. Robby Price had a nice game offensively with three hits while Kyeong Kang launched a two run home run.
Advanced Class-A Charlotte Stone Crabs (41-49)
Poor defense and pitching was the story for the Stone Crabs in their 10-4 loss. The starter, Roberto Gomez, allowed seven runs in five innings, though only three were earned. Matt Ramsey had his worst outing of the year, allowing three runs in three innings. Hager, Shaffer, and Carter all committed an error defensively. On the offensive side, Ryan Brett, Drew Vettleson, Richie Shaffer, and Alejandro Segovia all had two hits apiece.
Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (53-38)
A poor outing by Jeff Ames cost the Hot Rods in their 6-3 victory. Ames lasted only two innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He was replaced by Stone Speer, who pitched better, allowing two runs in four innings. The final run was charged to Marcus Jensen. Andrew Toles hit his second home run of the year, while Marty Gantt added two hits.
Class-A Short Season Hudson Valley Renegades (15-12)
A bunt single by Granden Goetzman and a throwing error by the opposing pitcher gave the Renegades a walk off victory in the tenth inning. Hudson Valley took a 3-0 lead in the first, but State College stormed back to eventually take a 4-3 lead. After Hudson Valley added another three runs, State College scored in the 7th and 8th innings to send the game into extra innings. Ariel Soriano and Jonathan Quinonez both had three hits while Oscar Hernandez hit his fourth home run of the year.
Rookie Princeton Rays (5-17)
In the first game of the double header, the Rays fell 5-4 in the 8th inning. DJ Slaton allowed four runs in 4.2 innings while Luis Cabrera took the loss by allowing the decisive run in relief. Yoel Araujo drove in two runners with a single while Spencer Edwards hit a triple.
The Rays also lost their second game, this time by the score of 1-0. The game was postponed from 6/22. Josh Kimborowicz was handed the loss as he allowed the only run in his 3.2 innings. Clayton Crum finished the game in relief. The offense only had four base runners on the night.
Rookie GCL Rays (7-13)
The GCL Rays pitching woes continued Saturday on their 9-3 loss to the Orioles. Yomelbin Almonto allowed seven runs in two innings. Alexander Simon and Jose Paez both had two hits.
