For the first time since early April, there will be no Rays minor league games today. After a travel day, the International League championship resumes tomorrow.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (4-1)
Durham's pitching edged Pawtucket's to even the series with a 2-1 win over the Red Sox. Pawtucket got on the board first in the third inning. After back to back singles opened the inning, a sac bunt moved the runners into scoring position, and the Bulls conceded the run for the second out of the inning. Only four Red Sox batters would reach base the rest of the game. In the sixth, the first two batters for Durham reached base, but a Brandon Guyer double play looked like it would short-circuit the inning. Fortunately, catcher Dan Butler couldn't corral a knuckleball from Steven Wright, and Jason Bourgeois scored on the passed ball. An inning later, Kevin Kiermaier doubled home Craig Albernaz to give Durham the lead. C.J. Riefenhauser and Kirby Yates combined to strike out six over the final three innings to finish the game. Starter J.D. Martin allowed one run on four hits and a walk in six innings with three strikeouts. Vince Belnome reached base three times.
Star of the day- Martin provided six solid innings and hung in there after falling behind early.
Goat of the day- None today.
