New [site] manager: Danny Russell

The big announcement you have not been waiting for.

What if Maddon opted out of his contract, the Rays promoted Martinez, and then Maddon signed on as bench coach?

As you wait with bated breath for the Rays manager announcement (profiles of Don Wakamatsu  and Kevin Cash available here and here), there's another one that's basically just as important. I'm stepping down as site manager of DRaysBay, and Danny is taking my place.

For some time now, new responsibilities in my day job have made it difficult for me to give the site the time it needs and deserves. Regular readers will already know this to be true. For an even longer time, though, Danny has been co-managing the site, and when I stepped back, he picked up the slack. To paraphrase Dave Martinez, he was already doing the work, without getting the credit. Now we're going to make this official.

I will continue to be a part of the site, will keep writing and editing articles, and will continue to moderate your most annoying comments as I am able. The main difference, as far as you, the reader, are concerned, is that if you don't like something, complain to him (twitter). If you come to me, I will probably pass the buck.

Oh, and one more difference: I'm pretty confident that Danny, emboldened by his new-found authority, will make this site better. He's a good guy and he's a smart guy, and he really cares about this place.

Since I'm not actually leaving, I don't want to make this sappy (if I were, then you bet it would get sappy). But being site manager at DRaysBay has been really fun -- not in spite of the community but because of it.

Stay fun in #DRussBay.
