Rays at White Sox GDT 3: A balmy 50 degrees

And some showers too.

David Banks

In Chicago, 50 degrees is cause for celebration. We used to break out the shorts and hoodies when 50 degrees finally came around. Yeah, it gets 100 degrees every now and then during the summer, but those first few 50-degree days are sparkling to the eyes still encrusted with winter's frost.

Let's talk about Chicago institutions. Deep dish pizza. That's a Chicago institution. Italian beefs -- another key cultural component to the city. The Second City comedy club -- we're talking Dan Aykroyd, Tina Fey, Chris Farley, Jane Lynch, and Martin Short. People think of Chicago, they think of comedy.

They also think of Hawk Harrelson.

And like the fire that scarred the city in the late 1800s, killed an enormous swath of residents and displaced millions more, Hawk Harrelson is just as much a Chicago institution as everything else.
