I have a theory about chimney sweeps: they receive a lot of misplaced good will because of the enduring appeal of one of film's all-time favorite characters - Dick Van Dyke as Bert the chimney sweep in "Mary Poppins." Even though he sported one of the worst Cockney accents on record, he was lovable and humorous and etched the image of the well-meaning chimney sweep on several generations of filmgoers.
