If this was, in fact, the last time David Price will pitch at the Trop in a Rays uniform, he gave us an incredible performance to remember him by.
Joe Maddon said before the game that he could see that look in Price's eye today. This was going to be a special one. Joe was right. Price went 8 innings on 112 pitches, allowed no runs on 5 hits and a walk, and struck out 5 on the day. He was truly a joy to watch. Joe would call on Rays relief ace, Jake McGee, to finish the game. He would strike out 2 to preserve the W and the shutout.
Yunel Escobar celebrated his return by scoring the first two Rays runs today. The first on a Logan Forsythe single in the second, and the next on a Jose Molina single in the sixth. This play would be reviewed, but Yunel clearly slid in safe at home.
The 7th inning gave us a beautiful KK/Zobrist double steal and another insurance run on a Longo sac fly. There would not be another run scored today.
We may not have an All Star to watch on Tuesday night, but David Price gave us a performance tonight to remind us why he was selected this year, and why he will be for many years to come.
The Rays will enter the All Star Break with a record of 44-53. They'll return to action on Thursday the 18th in Minnesota.
