Despite the poor results in the win/loss column, a few players still stood out.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (1-1)
Durham's bullpen squandered a solid start from Everett Teaford in the Bulls' 5-4 10-inning loss to Gwinnett. Teaford departed after tossing five scoreless innings with a 2-0 lead, but Jim Patterson was charged with three runs in the sixth. After Jake Elmore's bases-loaded walk and Joey Butler's two-out single gave Durham a 4-3 lead in the ninth, the Braves tied the game again against C.J. Riefenhauser and won it against Bryce Stowell. Elmore and Butler each reached base three times
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (1-1)
Montgomery and Chattanooga combined to strike out 31 times in the Biscuits' 6-2 loss to the Lookouts. Starter Austin Pruitt exited with two runners on base in the fifth inning, having struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings. Daniel Robertson made a crucial error to load the bases, and Matt Lollis served up a grand slam to Jorge Polanco. Richie Shaffer homered in the sixth and doubled and scored in the ninth in a three-hit day. Colton Reavis struck out six in two innings but allowed a pair of insurance runs.
Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (1-1)
Offense was hard to come by for Charlotte in the Stone Crabs' 3-0 loss to Fort Myers. Ryne Stanek made just one mistake in an otherwise solid start, allowing a two-run home run to Niko Goodrum in the third. He struck out six and gave up three hits and a walk in five frames. All three Charlotte hits were singles.
Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (0-2)
Bowling Green dropped to 0-2 with a 7-3 loss to South Bend. The Cubs scored three runs in the third against Greg Harris, but only one was earned due to a Cristian Toribio error. Harris finished his Rays debut with those runs allowed on four hits in five innings with six strikeouts and no walks. The Hot Rods scored a pair of runs with two outs in the sixth, but South Bend scored two in each of the next two innings to put the game away. Justin Williams, Jace Conrad and Toribio all had two hits.
