In former Rays news, Russ Canzler got his first professional win in a wild game yesterday afternoon.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (2-2)
Durham fought back from a 3-0 deficit but could not complete the comeback in its 6-3 loss to Gwinnett. A half inning after Alexi Casilla tied the game in the eighth, the Braves only needed two batters to retake the lead against Brandon Gomes. Gwinnett was able to take on a couple insurance runs against Jose Dominguez, thanks to an error by Hak-Ju Lee and wild pitch. Casilla had two hits, and Vince Belnome reached base four times.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (1-3)
Reinaldo Lopez was impressive, but Montgomery wasted his effort in the Biscuits' 6-0 loss to Chattanooga. In six scoreless innings, Lopez struck out seven and allowed just three hits and no walks. Jordan Harrison and and Mark Sappington each allowed three runs, although only two of Harrison's were earned. Johnny Field and Tommy Coyle had two-hit games.
Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (2-2)
Jacob Faria dominated in his Class A-Advanced debut and led Charlotte to a 4-0 win over Fort Myers. After allowing a leadoff double, he settled in. He struck out seven and only allowed four hits and a walk in six scoreless innings. Willy Adames collected his first hits of the season with a 2-for-4 game, and Jeff Ames threw two scoreless innings in his 2015 debut out of the bullpen.
Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (1-3)
Casey Gillaspie hit his first home run of the season, but it was not enough in Bowling Green's 2-1 loss to Lake County. His leadoff solo home run in the second inning, but the Hot Rods only managed four hits, all singles, the rest of the game. Henry Centeno was solid in six innings of work, allowing just a run on a hit and two walks and striking out three. Edwin Fierro would give up the go-ahead run to the Captains in the eighth.
