Rays down on the farm May 31: Shaffer and Brett homer for Durham

Richie Shaffer's home run was his first since his incredible Triple-A debut

In the most exciting news of the day, I got Brent Honeywell and Cameron Varga cards in a Bowman pack yesterday.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (28-23)

Durham got homers from Ryan Brett and Richie Shaffer in its 4-2 win over Syracuse. Brett led off the game with his second home run, and Shaffer's solo shot in the fifth put the Bulls up 2-0. After the Chiefs tied the game at two, Allan Dykstra's two-out double in the eighth scored two. Scott Diamond was good, only allowing one unearned run on four hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (23-26)

Montgomery's game was canceled.

Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (32-17)

Charlotte's ninth-inning comeback fell short in its 9-7 loss to Palm Beach. The Stone Crabs scored four in the final inning with RBI hits from Pat Blair, Willy Adames and Jake Bauers, but they could never get the tying run on base. Buddy Borden's return to the rotation did not go well, allowing eight runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (27-22)

Bowling Green's game was suspended.
