Short slate of games due to All-Star breaks. Princeton starts its season tonight, so for the next two months, there will be seven U.S.-based affiliates in action.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (39-32)
Durham was off.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (34-34)
Montgomery is at the All-Star break.
Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (45-23)
Neither team felt like waiting out a rain delay, and Charlotte emerged as a 2-0 winner in a 4 1/2 inning game. Willy Adames tripled home Tim Beckham for the first run in the fourth, and he soon scored himself on Jake Bauers' single. Taylor Guerrieri struck out two and allowed just a hit and a walk in four innings before Kyle McKenzie finished the game. Grady Sizemore went 0-for-2.
Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (37-33)
Bowling Green is at the All-Star break.
Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades (3-1)
Hudson Valley's bullpen collapsed late in its 6-1 loss to Lowell. Tim Ingram allowed the first two batters he faced in the seventh to reach base, and the Spinners went ahead on a passed ball and run-scoring groundout. Reece Karalus allowed a run in the eighth, and Brandon Koch was hit for three in the ninth. In his Rays debut, Travis Ott scattered four hits and a walk in five scoreless innings with four strikeouts, and Lowell conceded the Renegades' only run on Alex Schmidt's groundout following Hec Montes' leadoff triple.
Rookie Gulf Coast League Rays (0-1)
The GCL Rays' opener was pretty forgettable with a 10-4 loss to the GCL Red Sox. Sandy Brito started and allowed two runs -- one earned -- without allowing a hit in one inning, and Ian Kendall was hit for two runs -- one earned -- himself in one-third of an inning. Orlando Romero later allowed four runs -- three earned -- in four innings. Adrian Rondon had an impressive debut, reaching base four times including a double.
