With 21, Richie Shaffer is just a couple dingers shy of Chattanooga's Adam Walker for the minor league home run lead.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (46-41)
Richie Shaffer hit two more home runs, and Durham held on for a 10-8 win over Charlotte. Shaffer's third multi-dinger game since joining Durham gave him 14 with the Bulls, putting him one behind Corey Brown and J.P. Arencibia, who each homered in the win. After Bradin Hagens struck out seven in six one-run innings, the trio of Enny Romero, Jose Dominguez and Kirby Yates nearly lost an 8-1 lead.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (8-5)
Montgomery's late rally fell short in a 3-2 loss to Pensacola. In the ninth, Justin O'Conner got the Biscuits on the board with an RBI double, and the Blue Wahoos conceded a second run to get the second out of the inning. With runners on the corners, Leonardo Reginatto was caught stealing second to end the game. Starter Jacob Faria did not strike out 14, but he was solid, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk in five innings with six strikeouts.
Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (4-11)
Charlotte allowed seven unanswered runs in its 7-2 loss to St. Lucie. After Taylor Guerrieri struck out six in four no-hit innings, Josh Kimborowicz allowed a run in two innings, but the game fell apart when Kyle McKenzie allowed six runs in two innings. Willy Adames and Braxton Lee hit RBI singles.
Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (8-7)
Bowling Green was hammered in its 11-2 loss to Dayton. Hunter Lockwood's RBI single gave the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead in the first, but it was brief. The Dragons scored the next five runs, all off Brad Wallace, but relievers Ryan Pennell and Damion Carroll fared no better, allowing three runs apiece. Lockwood tripled and scored Bowling Green's second run.
Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades (9-10)
Hudson Valley lost to Brooklyn by a 1-0 score in a rain-shortened game. Starter Cameron Varga faced just two batters before getting hit by a line drive and exiting, and Michael Velasquez was solid in long relief despite allowing the lone run of the game. Brandon Koch struck out three in 2 1/3 scoreless innings before the game was called.
Rookie Princeton Rays (9-7)
Princeton was not competitive in its 6-0 loss to Pulaski. Princeton was outhit, 12-4, and starter Deivy Mendez allowed four runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Rookie Gulf Coast League Rays (4-12)
The GCL Rays won two in a row for the first time this season with their 3-2 win over the GCL Red Sox. Down 1-0 with two outs in the fourth, Miguel Hernandez singled in two runs to give the GCL Rays the lead. An inning later, they scored another two-out run with Oscar Rojas' bases-loaded walk. GCL Rays pitchers combined to walk eight but were able to limit the damage.
