The Rays Tank: The Hottest of Stoves

Just try and cool it down!

Caylor Arnold-USA TODAY Sports

This trade deadline season has been crazy, and it doesn't look like it's slowing down. Last night saw a roller coaster of emotions in the form of trades that actually went down and one that fell apart.

Cole Hamels to Texas

Hamels is under contract for 3 more seasons, with an option for 2019 season. The Phillies side of the deal is centered on 4 of the Rangers top 20 prospects.

However, Texas was able to hold on to both Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara. The Rangers also dumped Matt Harrison’s contract in the deal.

Atlanta & Miami:  Friedman’d

The Dodgers, Marlins, and Braves pulled off a doozy of a three-way deal last night.

Dodgers get:

RHP Mat Latos and 1B Mike Morse from the Marlins, Braves top prospect 2B Jose Peraza(!), LHP Alex Wood, RHP Jim Johnson, LHP Luis Avilan.

Braves get:

30* year old Cuban infielder Hector Olivera, LHP Paco Rodriguez, A-ball RHP Zach Bird, plus Miami’s 35th pick in next year’s draft.

Marlins get:

Three low minors pitchers: RHP Kevin Guzman, RHP VictorAraujo, and RHP Jeff Brigham, plus sweet, sweet money ($14 million by not paying Morse and Latos).

There is some crying in baseball

Multiple reports started to spring up that the Brewers and Mets agreed on a trade to send OF Carlos Gomez for RHP Zach Wheeler and INF Wilmer Flores.

As rumors started to intensify, the word started to spread to the fans in New York and poor Wilmer Flores apparently heard he was on the move to Milwaukee.

What a surreal scene. The deal fell through, and it was reported that literally the entire world jumped the gun!

How dare you Papua New Guinea! You broke Wilmer Flores heart!

Much more craziness could certainly be barreling down the tracks. Strap in everyone!
