Game Notes: Odorizzi vs Miley

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

The 21 innings or so for the Rays they have played absolutely terrible. These past two games verse Boston they've scored 11 times, which would usually result in at least one victory, if not two. However, they've lost both games and it hasn't really been close. They are now eight games back of the AL East leading Yankees, and just four games ahead of Boston for last place.

Yesterday's loss was a combination job as Matt Moore gave up six runs in three innings, then the bullpen would allow five more runs during their five innings of work. They main proponent for Boston's offense was Sebastian Shaw's mutated son, Travis Shaw who was 4-4 with two homers (the first two of his career). There were two Rays casualties in yesterday's game as Steven Souza Jr went down after being hit by a pitch. He remained in the game as a baserunner but didn't take the field for the next half inning. It'd be revealed following the game that his hand had been fractured. Also leaving the team after yesterday's game was Matt Moore, who's performance has been abysmal since his return from the DL, he was optioned down to Durham.

Today, the Rays will send Jake Odorizzi to the mound to faceoff against Wade Miley. So far this year Odorizzi is 6-6 with a 2.76 ERA and a 3.33 FIP to go along with a 20.5 K% and a 6.5 BB%, meanwhile opponents have hit .220 off him this season with 8 HR over the course of 16 starts and 97 plus innings on the mound. He earned a victory his last time out, pitching six innings against Detroit, allowing only one which came on a solo homer. He also allowed six hits, struck out eight, and walked a batter.
